OT: Remote Desktop

Post by Otto »

Could it be that the use of Remote Desktop make client Server vacant and favorite desktop databases as dbf files again.
What do you think?

Best regards,
Otto

Otto,

I perfectly understand you and IMHO I think it could be. There are not limits for RDC app in internet and intranet enviroments. I widely use my FWH developments with RDC.

I really hope so. :-) But knowing the marketlords I'm afraid not... :-(

We use Citrix/Terminal Services and it works great with native dbf rdd's.
There are still reasons to use Advantage regardless of the connection method.
Some problems with native dbf:
1. If your program crashes, network failure, or other computer problems, an index could get corrupted or incomplete updates.
2. Index locking. As you browse or skip through the database the index file gets locked many times (not dbf). Once you reach a certain number of users this can slow down the access.
You probably know some of the other advantages of Advantage:
1. Triggers/Logging
2. Transactions
3. Database replication
4. Security
