Re: UE Studio & xHarbour Builder

Post by TimStone »

Antonio,

Thanks for the analysis. It will be helpful.

I have used UE Studio for the past year, and Multi-Edit. I asked the question about setup because a new UE Studio was recently released and I thought maybe someone had updated the setup.

I use the project to list my files, and make them easy to open, but i use xBuilder for the actual build. In Multi-Edit, I can set it up to run the xBuilder from the tool bar, but have not had any luck doing that with UE. Maybe I just need to look further.

I did try to setup and build from Borland last summer and kept running into build errors. My time got very busy and I had to discontinue the project ( I was in the middle of a MAJOR rewrite of my code ) but I may go back and try some other options soon.

I look forward to reading the future comments. Also, I do have Visual Studio 2010 installed and all of my clients now are on WIndows platforms so perhaps that is an option also. I'll look at other threads on the topic.

Tim,

I have not used UE Studio, but I do use UE (just the editor). And it does allow you to call whatever you want from the toolbar (bat, exe, etc). So, I can't imagine the UE Studio can't do the same.

I can compile with one click.

Tim,

yes, one of the most important aspect is the lack of time, that's hiding behind my first reason 'By habit'.

Re: UE Studio & xHarbour Builder

Post by Richard Chidiak »

Tim

It is straight forward with borland compiler as the uestudio configuration files knows all the syntax "make file" for borland

you just have to click on the build icon and you're done

If you want to use it with xbuild, as far as i know , you can not execute another program or line command from within uestudio you can execute a javascript but that's another story.

I have published a sample of a project file for Paul Simms , it is really straight forward with borland

My major concern moving to borland , keep the best compatibility with FWH and have the best support , the great number of users for fwh use borland compiler and their experience is greatly helpful. As per encouraging the development of xharbour issue as you mentioned, i feel (i may be wrong) that the dev done by xharbour.com is being far and far away from fwh compatibility (Visual xharbour, sqlrdd..etc), so i am not sure to get correct support if i have a problem with my application. Besides, less and less fivewinners are using xhb commercial , that doesn't really help for support.

Antonio is releasing stable builds for xharbour and that's exactly what we need, the time for Cvs etc.. is over now, we need very stable relase as nobody wants bugs in his applications.

My advice, make a test with borland and uestudio , i am sure you will love it,

If i can be of any help, let me know, :)

Antonio Linares wrote: We already have FWH built using (MinGW: Minimalist GNU for Windows) gcc and we provide a samples\buildg.bat to build the apps.

We have not included those LIBs in FWH setup (we will do it from next version on). If you want them, please send me an email
Thanks for the libs. I compiled my big app and found out:

- dbl2flt.c is not included in the libs (but I could compile it with MinGW)
- activex functions (activex.c) are not available
- richedit functions (trichedi.c) are not available
- FWCallDLL function is not available

Richard;

Hi.

I must have missed something. Didn't even know you could build your project from within UEStudio. I guess I need to keep a closer watch on this forum. I'm still using Borland make files. I looked at the file you posted, but have no idea what to do with it. Besides, my file list and .libs are possibly different.

I currently have about 20 different projects. The only feature I'm using from the "project" setup in UE studio is the list of files to load for editing for each project. I think I'm to need a bit more explanation on how to setup the project so that I can build the app from UEstudio. Maybe someone already wrote a howto?

Can someone help?

Reinaldo.
