To Antonio:

One of my customers wants me to migrate some data tables. The files are doctor.dat & doctor.idx. Here's the link to download the files (zipped). Can anyone tell me how can I open this files (even without the index). Thank you.

Surely the person who gave you the files should be able to tell you what software generated the data. The .dat file extension is a very common extension for data files so a bit more information could save an awful lot of time and effort.

Guys:

Thank you. The problem is that the software company is not around any longer. So basically I am trying to guess the file format. The aforementioned software is running under Fedora 8.
