Notice that you can drag & drop the "parts" (named "gadgets") onto the desktop, having a similar functionality like OSX tiger "widgets".

Rafael Rivera has published now a little utility to hide the sidebar, so you can get the gadgets floating around your desktop without showing the sidebar. Really cool
